Does the Law of Attraction Work?

I read The Secret almost a year ago. Even though the law of attraction became incredibly obvious to me immediately I’m still in the process of integrating it into my mind and life. Like many people facing the challenges of living it takes a radical shift in perspective to completely change your thinking.

The world seems to be falling apart everywhere around me even more so than a year ago. Yet my shift from thinking about what I don’t want to what I do want has made many incremental yet major differences in my personal life and how I feel. This has made me want to delve even deeper in the teachings behind the secret.

In practical experience the law of attraction works at the pace of a growing flower. You don’t see it happening so your mind wonders if its just a bunch of nonsense. However, if allow yourself to participate in strong intentions, faith and letting go, then I have found you wake up one day and realize your life is starting to change into something new and different.

Learning to Really “Use” the Law in Your Life

If you find that the law of attraction is not working for you in this way then you might need some more refined insights. The book and DVD The Secret is really just an introduction to the basics concepts. Even Bob Proctor, one of the stars in the movie, thinks its a “watered down version” of universal laws, even though it still served its purpose of helping the masses.

Proctor’s course “The 11 Forgotten Laws of Attraction” and Joe Vitale’s “The Secret Behind the Secret” are both excellent teaching manuals for learning the skills and tools you can use to practically implement the the law in to your life. However, these concepts have been considered as out of reach or something to strive for over many lifetimes, not as an actual way to live your life. Words like “enlightenment”, “zen” and “saved” have such an astounding number of bizarre mental connotations attached to them that it becomes almost impossible for people to think they can enter that state. I personally think that these all refer to the states of mind that make the law of attraction work for you and that there are concrete steps you can take to become a new kind of person.

Why There is Allot More to “The Secret”

For instance, in “The 11 Forgotten Laws of Attraction” Bob Proctor outlines more keys to jump starting the law of attraction.  He says you need to really understand that even people who are not getting what they want are still subject to the law, they just still happen to be thinking in a way that is drawing the wrong circumstances to them.  The reason this happens is due to undisciplined thinking because at some level there must be resistance going on in the mind that is creating the undesired outcomes.

If the mind is still stuck in thinking about what it does not want then it is not open to give or receive.  Without giving or receiving there is no way to have a forgiving mindset about your current situation.  You can not experience increases in income or well-being if you are trapped in angry or resentful thoughts.  That’s why there is allot more to it than just telling yourself to “Let-go”.

My whole point is that you really need to commit to the law of attraction with your whole mind and make it your way of life.  Its like any profession or hobby, it takes a while to get good at and you don’t see immediate results.  If you want to become a doctor your don’t read one medical book and then say “it doesn’t work” just because you don’t become a doctor right away!

I have been studying making money online for a while now and making some part-time income mostly with affiliate marketing and Google Adsense. I have narrowed the entire method down to two simple steps.

1. Create unique content that flows naturally and throw in some keywords that people search for.

I’ve been looking into the PlayStation 3 and considering many of the reviews at Amazon. People seem to think the bundle is a good deal in order to get the extra memory. Tonight I converted an old song that was going nowhere into a blues song. I just sang the same lyrics over a blues progression, made a few adjustments to the phrasing and viola… I had a great new song.

In fact, lately I have found that people enjoy my blues songs the most when I play live. Why? I don’t really know. But since the blues is the easiest thing for me to write and sing, then I am going to start doing more.

That brings me to the main point of doing what comes easiest and most naturally. I read a book called Effortless Mastery that taught this theory as applied to music.

So if you where to ask me, “can you give me some songwriting tips?” I would say to sing and play lyrics, melodies and phrasing that you don’t have to force at all. If your trying and it feels hard then forget it and move on.

This blog is also an excersice in just writing what comes to me, without any thought or research unless I am inspired. It fits into my over all practice of following the Tao Te Ching which I am learning is also the same as Zen.

Lately we have been looking for a house to buy and it’s amazing how close we are to being able to afford something decent.  It’s incredible what 1/2 a percentage point can do to a monthly payment.

I am trying to maintain a positive attitude about the whole thing where in the past I would have freaked out, especially since we have a baby on the way.  After reading The Secret and The Power of Now I really see so clearly how my mental attitude toward the situation determines how things turn out.

However, I am definitely in that phase where I need to master the Law of Attraction  by being persistent and not letting doubts creep in.  I realized I have locked myself into a very tenuous financial situation up until now by replaying the negatives in my mind, even though at the core of it I wanted things to change.

On the bright side I am starting to see some changes in my bank account since practicing The Secret.  Having the attitude of “I always have enough for what I need” seems to be working.  I don’t have the extra $900K I want, but I do have an extra $900 more than my bills at the moment.  Not bad and that is a big change from worrying about getting to the next pay check.

I lost weight several times by dieting on my own and with Tom Venuto’s Burn the Fat system (www burnthefat com). Worrying About the Types of Food You Eat

Sure, ideally we all want to drink eight glasses of water a day, eat four food groups, have 5 vegetables, 4 fruits, or whatever. In reality I am on the road, with my kids or at work and I have no time to plan what I eat, and I don’t really want to. When I can, of course I eat well. But when I am stuck at a McDonald’s I eat a small fry, single cheeseburger and diet coke. I love fries. That’s it and I know for a fact from experience that I could have that for dinner every day and still loose weight.  That’s my main point of criticism of the program.

Looking at the Way You Eat as a Diet

I definitely agree with Burn the Fat on this.  I realized over time that I did not have to “diet” to loose weight. What I really needed to do was stop overeating and try, when I can, to avoid the worst foods. Tom outlines those foods in detail and it’s very helpful.  You may find that there is allot of pressure from people all around to eat what they think is “enough”. There is also self-pressure to eat everything you have ordered, or whatever a host has served. What I found overtime is that external definitions of what I should be eating were actually making my stomach upset. Now I eat until I’m full and if someone asks, “That’s all your going to eat?” I answer confidently “Yeah, you know I am just stuffed”.

So now I never “go off my diet”, I just “get caught in a situation where I overeat”. From my new perspective the overeating is the abnormal thing, not the diet.

Having a Goal to Loose a Certain Amount

I have found that when you eat until you are full, and stop to recognize how much food it takes to make you feel uncomfortably overfull, that amount naturally becomes less and less. Then the lost pounds take care of themselves.

The only thought in my mind is to stop doing what is uncomfortable and to naturally move into a state where my body and mind is free from excess baggage. That includes the metal pressures your family, friends, hosts and restaurants put on you in terms of portion size. It also includes the feeling of fat physically dragging you down. In my opinion the last thing you need is more stress by being compulsive about weight loss goals, as suggested in the book.

Not Eating Regularly

One of the best things that Burn the Fat taught me was to eat small meals and snacks all day. I still do that long after being on that program. Also, always have a drink with a meal or snack. This is a dieting cliche just like limiting your calories to less than you burn. However, I find it happens naturally. That is because when you are not overeating you tend to get hungrier sooner and having a drink every time you eat is what most people do anyway. So here is a simple schedule that works: small breakfast, snack, small lunch, snack, medium dinner, small desert, snack with a diet drink or water every time.

The key with any kind of online trading is using a tested method. I have found that a bunch of written down rules that I manually check is just not enough. There are so many factors to consider at once. However, I do not believe at all that the market behaves randomly.

If you’re looking into making money online with your own Website you’ll learn quickly that the key ingredient is getting online visitors, also known as “traffic”. The major provider of traffic on the Web is search engines and there are two ways you can have them bring buyers to your site.

1. You can pay the search engines to give you traffic, which is called Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising.

So do you think the mind can really and actually create reality around you?  Or do you have to play apart and actually “do” things instead of just completely “being”?  I’m thinking its a bit of both.  However, its not always clear based on books you read about the law of attraction what you should and should not do.  They kind of leave that part up to you and me to go with on our own.

For instance, before I read The Secret I know that in my past job I always thought I about how great I had it there (5 weeks of vacation!!) and how I would be in a really tough spot if I got laid off.  Guess what happened?  After six years I got laid off and found that my tech skills became a commodity in the mean time!

Well, now thanks to visualization and the law of attraction I choose to not even think about “jobs” at all. All I do is picture myself moving closer and closer to a financially free lifestyle where I am creating (music, writing, websites, etc.) and having a job is not even an thought on my mind. Now from my previous mindset I know for sure that I need to tap into the field of larger intelligence discussed in these studies to move into such a wildly different place in life. I can’t do it with my old thoughts about myself.

The books on CD I have been listening to lately (The Secret and Eckhart Tolle) really give practical tips into looking at the subconscious with ruthless honesty. I think one of the biggest revelations I had from reading The Secret and listening to Eckhart Tolle is just how much I had been identifying what “I AM” with my own story in my head of what I think I am. I used to think it was cool to think “I am a musician” until I realized all the mental connotations that definition has.

Now I think more in terms of simply “I am aware” and everything else is up for debate in my head. I don’t define “me” by anything anymore (or try not to the best I can). I finally get it that what I see, taste, hear, smell or feel all around me are just a very incomplete view of a bigger picture. The movie “The Matrix” is the perfect analogy.

In fact, I have become more and more fascinated and amazed by the scientific facts that prove our limited perception. To me it is like proof, logical proof that heaven does exist on, actually “is”, earth and it makes real sense to me. However, I am still learning how to connect that to the law of attraction in a practical way to move past my personal limitations.

What I like about The Secret, Eckhart Tolle and courses like Revolutioniz is the way they bring all the principals of the law of attraction and combine them with all the concepts I learned growing up Christian and from studying The Tao and Buddhism.

There is allot of controversy out there about what is seen as conflicting ideologies. However, when you look at it through the perspective of just “being” I can clearly see how these are all just various stories in peoples’ heads in a pointless struggle. It will all be meaningless in the end, “Even the sun will die” as Tolle says.

Are you beginning to see the eternal in your own life as a fact?  Do you have the clarity that the things you think about form the reality around you?  I definitely finally get it, but I’m not quite sure of the so called “unlimited’ abundance many law of attraction teachers talk about, at least not in the physical world.

I have in fact had many real life examples of where a change in my thinking had dramatic real positive effects on my life.  So I have faith that the law works, but I have not yet seen the really drastic improvements I want.  There are many books starting to come out for people just in this place.

The book and DVD “The Secret” brought up how science supports its claims. Quantum physics supposedly proves the theories of the gurus in the book. So in fact, science is the “secret behind the secret“.

The book is really just an introduction and there is really so much more to understand in order to move into a truly higher place of being. It shows because there are millions of people who watched “The Secret” (I know many) who never actually apply it in anyway, and in fact just don’t believe in it.

One of the keys is persistence and belief, so those people naturally will not see any results. So when will the real change happen for you?

One person who thinks he knows the answer is Dr. Eric Amidi a Quantum Physicist and Spiritualist who actually discovered a new subatomic particle. He applies the lessons he has learned from science to enable people to change their lives. He takes a more practical approach to actually using all the information described in books like “The Secret”.

Most of the teachers in the DVD are philosophers and self help lecturers, but Dr. Amidi claims that being an actual scientist helps explain the concepts in a more applicable way. For instance what to do when what you visualize does not manifest itself in the short term.

Jamorama (www jamorama com) is a guitar lesson course that you can take online.  I used to teach guitar so when I read about it I was interested.  I’ve looked around the Web to see what some Websites and users of the product have said.

Jamorama Complaints:

• Make sure you have a good Internet connection because you need to download files.
• You also will also be downloading Videos so you need to have some understanding of that.
• Could be better if the whole course was just video and they left out the written part.
• If you are already an advanced guitarist you may not be able to take full advantage of all the lessons.
• Make sure you get the acoustic version or lead guitar version if that’s your specialty, otherwise the standard course may not be for you.

I was one of those people about 10 years ago who used Napster (www napster com) to download free music when no one thought anything of it.  So I set out to do some research to see how much does Napster cost lately?

Napster Costs

1. Get the Napster free trial through this link and it gives you access to the same service and downloads that following memberships do for a week.
2. The Napster To Go® service is $14.95 a month and that lets you stream an unlimited amount of tracks and download them to your computer and up to three MP3 players or cell phones.
3. The regular Napster® service is $12.95 a month and you can stream all the songs you want but you have to buy each track to put on your MP3 player.

If you want to burn tracks to CD you have to pay for each MP3 with either membership.

Seems to me like the “To Go” service is the only one that is worth it.

I checked out what some people and Websites had to say about Napster - complaints and positives:

1. You don’t have to download and install software - all downloads are done right from the browser.
2. The quality of the MP3 files are very high at 192 Kps.
3. There is a PC version of Napster but it is not recommended and people have trouble with it.
4. The free streaming does not work as well on Mac browsers and Firefox.
5. The cost is incredibly cheap compared to iTunes but remember that the fee is monthly.
6. You may want to download plenty of songs for a few months or use the free trial and then cancel.

I have been able to make some extra money with affiliate programs without spending on more than a domain name and Web hosting.  I learned most of what I know from setting up my free music download blog, danogo social network and the maverick affiliate training course. This is how I do it:

1. Sign up for Godaddy.com and get a deluxe Web hosting account for $6.99 a month.
2. Go to the Web 2.0 domain name generator and make up a completely unique name that has no existing Google results.
3. Use the Godaddy hosting connection and install the Wordpress blogging software and install the redirect plugin.  Also add your feed to Google Feedburner and put the email signup form to your blog.  You will also add Google Analytics to your blog’s footer.
4. Find an online forum in a topic that you know very well that allows signatures.  For instance the forum may have discussions about golf, music, Harry Potter, movies or anything else you enjoy.  It must be a topic you really like and that you can write naturally about out of genuine interest.  If you can’t find one then try searching Yahoo Answers for topics you know something about.
5. Choose 5 of the questions that people ask most in the forums and answer them in posts on your own blog that last a few paragraphs.
6. Now put your blog URL in the forum signature or resource box at Yahoo Answers and make about 50 posts there.
7. Now you will have some traffic and you can apply for affiliate programs and get accepted.  Do a search on Google for your topic and affiliate for instance “harry potter affiliate”.  If you don’t find any good programs you can sign up for Google Adsense or Amazon since these programs can be applied to any niche.
8. Finally use the Wordpress redirect plugin to create URLs that go directly your affiliate links.  For instance http://www.beingpad.com/twilight would link to the book Twilight at Amazon with my affiliate ID.
9. Include these links in your blog, forum post signature or Yahoo Answers resource box.  The email sign up form and the affiliate links must be the first thing people see when they come to your Website.
10. The key to success: Now you are all set up for making money but this is the most important step.  Sit back, relax and participate in the topic you enjoy through joining more and more forums and adding a new blog post once a week.  If you miss the natural enjoyment step you will eventually give up.  Pick a topic that you are absolutely sure you could see yourself writing and talking about for the next 20 years.

That’s it.  Once your business is set up you are free to explore your topic of interest and money will follow.  Of course you will learn allot along the way and tweak the system in order to maximize visits, click through rates of your affiliate URLs and which affiliate programs get the most sign ups.

I have set up quite a few Wordpress blogs after taking the blogging to the bank course and been able to make some money blogging. If you want to create a blog there are some important mistakes to avoid.

1. Don’t use free blogging software like Google’s blogger.  If you want to start a professional blog you need to get your own domain and hosting.  There are many, many reasons for this and just a few are listed here:  Advantages and Disadvantages of Free Web Hosts and Choosing Your Blog Platform and Hosting.
2. Don’t use any software other than Wordpress.  I have tried almost every one and it’s simply the best.
3. Don’t install a blog as an added Website feature on top of other structures.  Make sure you install the blog at the root of your domain.  Use Wordpress as your complete CMS (Content Management System).  It has everything you need, including static non-post pages.
4. Don’t use a second rate Web host,  I use and recommend Godaddy.  As a Webmaster I have seen many other hosts and almost all of them have terrible admin features and customer service.
5. Don’t use any Website traffic tracking software other than Google Analytics.  It’s the best and it’s free.
6. Don’t enable comments from readers unless you have the time and real desire to properly moderate and interact.  I for one use my blogs as a personal journal and as a way to share what I have learned, not as a discussion forum.
7. Don’t use the default Wordpress theme or any existing free Web blogging template.  Start with a very, very simple Wordpress theme like naked and build up from there with your own custom graphics.
8. Don’t use archive dates in your permalinks.

There are many more details you will learn along the way. For instance, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is not knowing the purpose and audience of your blog before you start it. The most successful blogs have a targeted theme that they stick to.
